Cargo System Redefined

Until now, trailer-cargo combinations were manually created models, requiring a vast number of unique assets. This method made it difficult to expand cargo options efficiently and consumed significant disk space.

With the redefined cargo system, the game now automatically merges cargo with trailers based on simplified rules. Each cargo type determines its own model, loading process, and securing method. This shift streamlines development and improves memory efficiency. While this initial iteration may have some issues, refining the system will open doors to future advancements such as dynamic cargo loading and unloading.

Truck Adjustment Menu Redesign

The Truck Adjustment Menu has been completely overhauled for a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. Previously, settings for adjusting driver FOV, seat position, and mirrors were scattered across different menus. Now, they share a unified interface, simplifying customization for all players.

  • Keyboard & Mouse Users: Navigation is now smoother with WASD controls, sliders, and buttons for fine-tuning.
  • Controller Users: Adjustments are more fluid, utilizing the left stick for changes, the right stick for mirror positioning, and the D-pad or shoulder buttons for navigation.
  • Easier Access: The menu remains accessible via the default F4 key, a custom keybind, or through the adviser services menu.

This update ensures a seamless experience for all users, regardless of their preferred control method.

PhysX System Implementation

With the 1.54 update, American Truck Simulator has transitioned to the NVIDIA PhysX physics engine, replacing the previous Bullet engine. PhysX enhances collision detection accuracy and delivers more realistic interactions between vehicles and objects. Players may already notice improved physics in the Driving Academy game mode, where objects now behave more naturally upon impact.

For those who prefer the previous Bullet physics engine, it can still be enabled using the -bullet command line in Steam launch options.
